Lesson 3 Wikis

I use wikis frequently within my job. We have our own library wiki that allows us to quickly access information such as bookings sheets, forms and procedure information within the library service. Of course wikipedia has helped me to first of all find out obscure facts which I would never have known, which I can then successfully reference in other ways.
My favourite Wikis so far from the examples given are Wookieepedia, Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki and Library Success: A best practices wiki.
These are the types of sites I would be using again, Wookieepedia for my own personal Star Wars addiction and the library wikis for keeping up to date with my profession.

Lesson Two

Online Photo Sharing

I found Flickr fascinating - especially the Creative Commons area which allows searching for images under different types of copyright license.

I found under the Attribution license an image of Cows that I just love.

Two Cows by kwerfeldein.
Here's a link so you too can enjoy the great photo.

Lesson One

Creating a gmail account and my very own blog

  • About time I created another alternative email and so easy too, should have done it ages ago. I've been showing patrons how to do it for nearly 9 years !!
  • I created a blog a few years ago as part of slq training, but have since long lost the address and skills used to create it. Again, creating a new one was so easy!
  • Greatest trepidation - how to create an interesting blog - I'll gain more courage as I progress. There's nothing I like better than learning something new and so much to learn!

I am looking forward to keeping up to date with all the latest web skills so I can provide the best customer service. Good to see the excellent blogs of my colleagues.
